1 OctoPod will recirculate 11 Olympic swimming pools in an hour.
24 OctoPods will recirculate the equivalent of Sydney Harbour (-562GL) in a month.
21 OctoPods will recirculate the equivalent of the Panama Canal (~5.25TL) in a year.
A whale-sized aquabot with a host of applications
Sustainable aquaculture
Wave-powered oPods are designed to bring cold, oxygenated water to aquaculture pens, removing the need for diesel-powered generators. They can form a base for ecosystem-enhanced wild catch fisheries.
Coral restoration
oPods can bring cool water to ‘cushion’ the effect of temperature spikes on coral reefs, and restore bleached coral to full bloom again. 194 football fields worth at a time.
Perpetual power
oPods are designed to operate in low-wave conditions as well as high-wave (up to 6m (19ft) swells) for 24/7 availability. When the sun doesn’t shine, and the wind dies down, oPods are designed to continue pumping.
Desalination
oPods can be used in desalination for use as sustainable, direct-wave powered pumps for bringin in seawater and for decentralized brine diffusion.
Ocean Intelligence
oPods are equipped with multiple sensors to measure and record ocean health. A global network of ‘ocean intelligence’ could hold the key to unlocking future marine science.
Carbon capture
oPods promote the growth of microscopic algae called phytoplankton. Phytoplankton grows phenomenally, capturing and sequestering carbon naturally. One oPod is estimated to remove more than 1500 tons of carbon per year. Find out more.
