A whale-sized aquabot with a host of applications
Sustainable Aquaculture
Wave-powered oPods are designed to bring cold, oxygenated water to aquaculture pens, removing the need for diesel-powered generators. They can form a base for ecosystem-enhanced wild catch fisheries.
Coral restoration
oPods can bring cool water to ‘cushion’ the effect of temperature spikes on coral reefs, and restore bleached coral to full bloom again. 194 football fields worth at a time.
Ocean Intelligence
oPods are equipped with multiple sensors to measure and record ocean health. A global network of ‘ocean intelligence’ could hold the key to unlocking future marine science.
Carbon capture
oPods promote the growth of microscopic algae called phytoplankton. Phytoplankton doubles in size, every day, capturing carbon and oxygenating the atmosphere at a phenomenal rate.
One oPod is estimated to remove 1,170 tons of carbon per year.
New 2024 Octopods have oceans of power
1 OctoPod will recirculate 17 Olympic swimming pools in an hour.
20 OctoPods will recirculate the equivalent of Sydney Harbour (-562GL) in a month.
110 OctoPods will recirculate the equivalent of the Grand Canyon (~4.7T) in a year.
Pick a Pod
Mono Pod
5,453 cubic metres per hour upwelling capacity.
The equivalent volume of two Olympic swimming pools, per hour.
Tethered oPods collect deep, cold water bringing it directly to an oPod 'sprinkler' at the reef, where it’s distributed.
This cool water can lower spikes in temperature and balance the conditions needed to restore the growth of coral ecosystems.
